The former CEO of cell phone retailer Euroset Yevgeny Chichvarkin, now London resident, is planning to do business, but not in Russia.
According to RBC TV, Chichvarkin is thinking about doing retail business in the UK. He will start to develop the new business in London, but this won't be so easy because of the language barrier. "I'm still not good in english and it's a little bit hard for me to study the needs of local consumers", says the businessman.
In addition he noted, that London taxes are much more higher. Also a lot of permissions for business activities needed, this will require expensive help of lawyers. "Any person can do it, I mean you don't have to do something special to obtain any permission, but it's pretty hard to earn", — says Chichvarkin.
As for the case of closing the deal of Vimpelkom and Euroset, Chichvarkin commented, that all relations with Alexander Mamut, a businessman and investor, as well as with Vimpelcom stuctures were completed. Chichvarkin sold 100% of Euroset stock to Alexander Mamut. The businessman supposes that it's not correct to comment the current leadership of Euroset. Moreover, he said he had some ideas about company developing but he didn't speak out so as not to change plans of the management. "The company is still a huge machine for production and profit as well as the creator of positive mood of the consumers. The opportunities of the company are enormous. There are massive perspectives for the company", — says Chichvarkin.
Also he added he no longer advised the leadership of Euroset. Prevously it was told that top-management of the company had been consulting with Evgeny Chichvarkin on the issues of retailing development.
"At first I've been consulting them. Now I do not give them any advice. I live in London for 2,5 years and I don't know anything about mobile innovations. Actually, in Britain there are only two phone types — a BlackBerry and iPhone. Locals do not buy any other mobile devices! BlackBerry and iPnohe take 80% of the market", — noted Chichvarkin.
The former Euroset CEO said he was not planning to go back to Russia. "The authirities are trying to drop another criminal case against me. I feel, there is a catch", — he said. The criminal prosecution had been annuled and Chichvarkin said it all had been falsified and the jury noted that. According to RIAN, Chichvarkin said he feared that smuggling charges could be brought against him as part of a 2005 criminal case, when he was accused of organizing large-scale mobile phone and accessory smuggling, but the accusations were lifted. "The businessman's lawyer said there were real fears that his client could be brought to criminal account as part of the 2005 case. Chichvarkin still has the status of a witness in the case, but this status could be changed, according to RIAN.
"Russia has been seeking his extradition since he fled to Britain in late 2008. Unwilling to repeat the fate of jailed ex-oil tycoon Mikhail Khodorkovsky, Chichvarkin left Moscow after receiving information he was about to be arrested", — according to RIAN.
