“Yandex” Internet company plans to compete with Aviasales and SkyScanner on the market of ticket sales, according to the message of the company.
“Developing the service “Yandex.Aviabilety” (“Yandex. Air tickets”) and adding new features, we begin to seriously compete with the major players in this market, which are used by independent travelers now - such aggregators as Aviasales and SkyScanner” - the company noted. “Now we are in the top three”.
According to the “Yandex. Metrika” (“Yandex.Metric”), in 2014 the average monthly attendance of “Yandex.Aviabilety” in Russia amounted to 1.2 million visitors. According to the estimate of the SimilarWeb system, in November 2014 Aviasales had 4.5 million visitors (75% from Russia), SkyScanner – 3.5 million visitors (92%). “Yandex” decided to increase competition with major players by adding new features to the service. These include search of tickets in neighboring airports, automated check of tickets for “neighboring” days immediately in the search results, as well as recommendations for directions.
“This is the first implementation of personalization technology in the service, we will develop it over time” – the company message said. The Press Service of “Yandex” told to “Interfax” that the company was monetizing the service via advertising and payments from partners. The latter pay a fixed amount (which is not disclosed by the company) for the visitors transferred to the partners’ web-sites (as usual, it happens on the registration of the ordered ticket). Partners’ payments account for about 80% of the service revenue.
At the moment “Yandex.Aviabilety” has about 30 partners in Russia and 5 in Ukraine that provide all necessary information to the services. At the same time, “Yandex” notes that it constantly checks the partners for reliability of the information provided (by the assessors and special algorithms) and disables them in case of violations. At the same time, the company continues to connect new partners - 5-10 per year - after their appropriate testing. The company plans to continue the service development, including geographic one – we speak of the launch of “Yandeõ.Aviabilety” in Turkey, where “Yandex” competes with the American Google search in the search market. “We plan to develop “Yandeõ.Aviabilety” as a service inspiring for travel” - the company answered.
