The Venture Fund of Sberbank - SBT Venture Fund I – has invested to the Uber taxi call service. This was reported by Sberbank’s press service to “Lenta.ru” on Thursday, July 7. The amount of investment is not disclosed.
“Sberbank of Russia has the largest customer base in the mobile bank and in the segment of plastic bank cards, Uber is a leader in the field of digital on-demand service economy” - Mikhail Erenburg, the Senior Vice -President of Sberbank for the Development of Digital Business, stressed. According to the General Manager of “Uber Russia” Dmitry Izmailov, the company is now represented in 12 largest cities of Russia and plans to expand its geography until the end of the year. SBT Venture Fund I (“MoneyTime Ventures” management company) was created with the participation of Sberbank in 2013.
The fund has currently invested in 11 companies. The total volume of money managed by the fund amounts to $ 100 million. Uber was founded in 2009 and is considered the largest IT-startup in the world. Uber started to work in Russia in December 2013. Now the service is working in Moscow, St. Petersburg, Yekaterinburg, Kazan, Krasnodar, Krasnoyarsk, Nizhny Novgorod, Novosibirsk, Rostov-on-Don, Sochi, Ufa and Chelyabinsk. Before the end of the year is planned to launch the service in all Russian cities with the population over one million people.
