The first order of Russia’s largest data processing and storage centre will be launched in Tver Oblast in spring of 2017. This was announced by the Director General of “Rosatom” State Corporation Sergey Kiriyenko, as TASS reports.
“The data processing and storage centre is being built at an accelerated pace. The first and foremost order of 4800 IT-racks will be commissioned in spring of the next year. The second stage gives us even up to 8000 racks”- Kiriyenko said, adding that the construction site chosen for the data centre makes it possible to double the indicator. According to the Head of the state corporation, the construction of the centre will give a good opportunity for the sale of electricity by the Kalinin nuclear power plant (KNPP), as well as provide new high-paying jobs.
He stressed the fact that a brand new high-tech economy of the region was being formed.
The construction of the data centre next to the KNPP started in 2016. It will provide a complex of IT services on the protection of personal data, storage of the necessary information to a range of large corporations. It is planned to transfer the most important state information systems to the centre.
The territory of 8.5 hectares will include three buildings of the centre, an administrative building, a checkpoint and a substation. The electricity to these objects will be provided by KNPP. The investment project is being implemented within the framework of the program “Development of Capacities of the Data Processing and Storage Centre of “Rosenergoatom Concern” JSC”. The functions of the general contractor in the construction of the centre are performed by “CHD Engineering” company.
