X5 Retail Group Became a Market Leader

One of the largest Russian multiformat retail companies  X5 Retail Group has taken back the leadership in the Russian food retail sector. In 2016, the retailer's revenue increased by 27.5 percent and exceeded 1.025 trillion rubles. This figure was the best since 2011, as the company noted. Moreover it is almost 21 billion rubles more sales in grocery stores of chain "Magnit", which retained the championship on the market since 2013. Net retail sales for all formats of "Magnit" increased by 12.81 percent, up to 1.07 trillion rubles, the company said.

At the end of the fourth quarter of 2016 X5 sales increased by 27.5 percent up to 291.3 billion rubles, which is 3 percent more than the results of "Magnit" in the same period (282.5 billion rubles, an increase of 9 percent). First time X5 became a leader by revenue in September 2016 and since then it keeps its position in the retail market, General Director of “Infoline-Analysis" Mikhail Burmistrov said.

The company set the goal to keep the championship and expects to achieve it by the end of this year. According to Bloomberg forecast, EBITDA of X5 will make 94.7 billion rubles in 2017.
