In 2017, Russia Will Purchase About 200 Tons Of Gold

This May the gold reserves in the international reserves of Russia increased by 1.3 percent, or 21.8 tons, and by June 1 amounted to 54.9 million ounces (1,707.6 tons). The cost of gold in reserves for May rose by 0.9 percent – up to 69.3 billion US dollars. In April 2017, the Bank of Russia purchased 6.2 tons of monetary gold, in March - 25 tons, in February - 9.3 tons and in January - 31.1 tons.

Thus, since the beginning of this year the regulator has already acquired 93.4 tons of gold. In 2016 the reserves of precious metal in international reserves of Russia increased by 14.1 percent, up to 51.9 million ounces (1614.3 tons). At the end of 2015, reserves in gold increased by 17.3 percent, up to 45.5 million ounces (1415.21 tons).

According to Thomson Reuters, for the fifth year the Bank of Russia is leading in terms of gold reserves growth among the central banks of the world. Last year the regulator purchased 201 tons of precious metal. In 2017, Russia will purchase about 200 tons of gold, the agency said. During May Russia's gold and currency reserves grew by 4.72 billion US dollars and by June 1 reached a volume of 405.72 billion US dollars.
