The Bank of Russia is preparing a draft law according to which all banks will be required to collect biometric data of Russians: images of the person and voice impressions. The regulator intends to create a single biometric system (SBS) to implement the remote customer identification.
"Thanks to the innovation the citizens will be able to become investors of any bank without visiting its office, having passed the verification with the help of biometrics," the source said. The work on the creation of appropriate technological infrastructure has already begun, the Central Bank noted. The working group on the formation of SBS includes Sberbank, VTB, Binbank and Rosselkhozbank.
The innovation will make it possible to simplify the process of making any banking operations. At the same time, biometric data should be well protected from intruders. In June Kommersant wrote that the Central Bank is discussing the idea to introduce a system of unique numbers of credit agreements throughout Russia.
The purpose of the system is to avoid duplicating the numbers of loan agreements of various banks so that it is possible to identify a specific loan by the number.
