The cost of salmon caviar in Kamchatka increased by 30 percent compared to the previous year due to a decrease in catch in 2017. According to the director of the fishing company Anastasia Obedina, the prices of caviar of salmon or sockeye salmon in Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky and Elizovo rose to 3-3.5 thousand rubles per kilogram. The trading margin for caviar is 10 percent of the purchase price - 2.7 thousand rubles per kilogram, she clarified. In 2016, the stores bought caviar for 2.2 thousand rubles.
The rise in prices is due to the growth in demand for caviar in Japan, said Rashid Shamoyan, the Chairman of the Kamchatka regional branch of the All-Russian public organization Delovaya Rossiya. But there is no shortage of salmon caviar in Kamchatka, he stressed. The price for these products will not grow in this season, Shamoyan believes.
Kamchatka Directorate of the Federal Security Service and Rosselkhoznadzor on November 2 destroyed more than 25 tons of red caviar. The products were found in warehouses of poachers. The total value of seized caviar is estimated at 70 million rubles.
