For a year, Russians have increased the number of bank accounts abroad. The most popular banks are located in Switzerland, Spain, Britain, Germany and the USA.

As of December 31, 2017, Russians had opened more than 116 thousand foreign bank accounts. A year earlier this figure was at the level of 98 thousand. About 9 thousand foreign accounts for the year 2017 were closed, as it was reported by the Federal Tax Service. The agency added that in the pre-crisis 2013, the Russians submitted to the tax authorities about 17.5 thousand notifications of opening accounts abroad. Thus, in 2017 the number of notifications increased by 55 percent.

On February 6, Bloomberg reported that the Russian oligarchs from the Kremlin list faced additional audits in the US banks. The company Financial Integrity Network advised its clients to consider the persons on the US list as "politically significant persons" and check their operations with special care.
