Russia may Stop Buying Dairy Products from Belarus
April 14, 2018 16:25

The Minister of Agriculture of Russia, Alexander Tkachev, recommended Belarus, the largest exporter of dairy products to Russia, through which a significant part of dried milk comes, seeking new markets.

According to him, the Russian authorities intend to provide the milk market with 90 percent domestic products. "Belarusians should look for new markets, because we have serious intentions to give Russians milk," he said, adding that they intend to resolve the issue within 5-7 years.

Tkachev noted that Russian agricultural producers had increased milk production and were squeezing in the market of foreign competitors. However, the demand for raw milk from processors falls, as manufacturers prefer to buy cheaper milk powder. According to the minister, the enterprises can use not fresh, but dry milk as raw materials because of lack of method for determining the availability of milk powder in dairy products.
