The Most Expensive Runet Companies - 2019. Forbes rating

The trend towards the transformation of Russian Internet companies into ecosystems and the consolidation of the industry led to changes in the Forbes rating.

This year, the top three leaders in the ranking of the most expensive Runet companies have not changed since the last year: Yandex ranked first, Mail.ru Group ranked second, Avito ranked third. But there are newbies. The newly created TalentTech holding (16th place), a member of the Severgroup, debuted on the list. It has accumulated several startups in the field of online education and recruiting, the most important of which is the online university “Netology-groups”, that occupied the last line in the ranking of 2018.

Thanks to the deal with MTS in September 2018, youDo virtual labor exchange entered the TOP-20 with an estimate of $ 88 million (20th place). Finally, another labor exchange, organized according to the principle of Uber, returned to the Forbes ranking - the Profi.Ru service, which brought together several projects of the Eruditor Group under one brand.

The active development of Internet companies offline has benefited their financial performance. Online wildberries retailer (4th place), which last year increased the number of self-collection points from 1800 to 2799, managed to almost double its revenue and win the status of a unicorn company: its valuation exceeded $ 1 billion. The investment transaction with the South African fund Naspers significantly raised Avito, which became the third largest internet company in Russia with an estimate of about $ 3.85 billion.

Some companies have worsened their position in the ranking compared to last year, or even dropped out of it, despite the stated revenue growth. This is due to a change in the research methodology: this year, Forbes focused more on the expertise of venture funds and consulting companies operating in the Russian market, as well as transaction multipliers in Russia. The editors sought to calculate the price of the buyer, not the seller, therefore  preference was given to more conservative estimates. As a result, the KupiVip Group and Mamba companies left the Forbes rating.

Calculations

The revenue data (excluding VAT) was provided by the companies themselves, if the numbers caused the editorial staff to have doubts - they were checked on open sources or calculated on the basis of consultations with analysts. In other cases, instead of revenue, an estimate is obtained   by interviewing market participants.

Capitalization of public companies is given according to the stock exchange on January 28, 2019.   For each company, the cost estimates are calculated on the basis of multiples of analogues, transactions, and estimates of venture capitalists. The Profi.Ru service was estimated separately from the Eruditor Group, since it exists only as a legal entity and in the structure of its revenue, the online stock exchange accounts for the largest part of the income.
