Russian Billionaires Ranking

The founder of the “Magnit” store chain, Sergei Galitsky who sold 29.1 percent of his company’s shares to the VTB group for $ 2.44 billion in early 2018, headed the annual ranking of Russian billionaires with the highest income composed by the Forbes magazine. It was the first time when Galitsky was included into this list.

Mikhail Prokhorov continued to sell his assets and earned about $ 1.77 billion after selling 49 percent of the Brooklyn Nets basketball club and the shares of Rusal. Last year, Prokhorov ranked fifth in the list.

Vladimir Lisin is the third in the ranking, having received the dividends from Novolipetsk Steel in the amount of $ 1.59 billion. Last year he ranked third as well.

Aleksei Mordashov and Alisher Usmanov close the top five of billionaires with the highest incomes. Mordashov received $ 1.46 billion through dividends and the sale of the shares of Severstal, the dividends of Nordgold and TUI. The income of Usmanov amounted to 1.12 billion dollars due to the sale of shares in the Arsenal football club of London and the dividends from Metalloinvest.

The top ten of magnates with the highest incomes also included Vladimir Potanin (1.12 billion dollars), Vagit Alekperov (740 million dollars), Viktor Vekselberg (710 million dollars), Roman Abramovich (600 million dollars) and Suleiman Kerimov (490 million dollars).

This Forbes ranking assesses real money received by the entrepreneurs during the period from February 10, 2018 to February 8, 2019 for selling their assets or in the form of dividends, and is not a list of Russia’s richest business people. As the newspaper notes, during the compilation of the ranking they did not take into account taxes, the cost of servicing loans and various commissions fees.
