Forbes: the Most Reliable Russian Banks

Unicredit Bank ranked first in the top 100 of the most reliable banks in Russia compiled by the Forbes magazine.

Raiffeisenbank occupied the second line of the ranking, Rosbank ranked third, whereas the latter headed the ranking in 2018. All of them are subsidiaries of foreign banks. The top five of the ranking also includes Sberbank and VTB.

All banks in the ranking are divided into five groups. The first group of the most reliable financial institutions includes 30 banks (as compared to 13 banks in 2018): these are banks with BBB- and BB + ratings according to Fitch.

The top ten is closed by Citibank, ING Bank (Eurasia), Nordea, HSBC and Credit Agricole. The last group of the most unreliable financial institutions includes 13 banks:  Baltinvestbank, Energotransbank, “Koltso Urala”, “Obyedinnyonny Kapital” (“United Capital”), BystroBank, Peresvet, SKB-Bank, “Primorye Bank”, Aresbank, “International Financial Club”, Fora-Bank, Lanta-Bank and NS Bank.

The ranking was compiled based on the estimates of the largest rating agencies, such as Fitch, S & P, Moody’s, Expert RA and ACRA.

In 2018, the ranking of the most reliable banks was headed by Rosbank, the second line was occupied by Unicredit, the third - by Raiffeisenbank. Sberbank ranked fourth then, whereas Citibank ranked fifth. VTB closes the top five this year; last year it occupied the seventh line.
