Forbes compiled an annual ranking of the best Russian and foreign banks for millionaires. For the first time in the history of this rating, Sberbank did not take the first place.
Forbes presents the fourth rating of Russian and foreign banks offering private banking services to customers. The methodology was adjusted - an independent assessment of Frank RG experts, annually analyzing the private banking market, was added.
For the first time during the existence of the rating, Alfa Private took first place in it. At 0.1 points, it overtook the leader of the previous three years, Sberbank Private Banking, which is now located on the second line. For the first time, UniCredit Private Banking Russia is among the five leaders.
Among the foreign banks, the leaders are four last year's participants in the rating - UBS, Julius Baer, Credit Suisse and Pictet. The fifth place was taken by Citi Private Bank.

The Russian private banking market has now become a 10-player market, says Frank RG CEO Yuri Gribanov. The total market share of the 10 largest players as a result reached 80-85%.
At the same time, foreign investment banks are gradually leaving Russia. For example, Citi has been steadily reducing the number of retail offices for several years. And Morgan Stanley announced the rejection of brokerage and custody licenses.
There are 172,000 millionaires living in Russia, according to Credit Suisse analysts. Gathering information for the rating, Forbes asked its Russian participants to disclose how many people with a fortune above $ 1 million keep their money. Such clients turned out to be slightly more than 18,000. Alfa-Bank’s Private Bank has not spared personnel changes that have recently affected almost all of the bank’s leading business lines. At the beginning of the year, the managing director of Alfa Private Yekaterina Mileeva left the bank, and Anton Rakhmanov, who was involved in product development for wealthy clients, also left. Her place was taken by Alina Nazarova from FC Otkrytie. It has become more difficult to become an Alfa Private client - the bank has increased the entry threshold in Moscow from $ 0.5 million to $ 1 million, and in the regions - from $ 250,000 to $ 550,000.
To compile the rating, Forbes interviewed 30 financiers and representatives of the banking industry, and based on their votes they selected the top 10 banks. The rating score for Russian banks by 35% consists of the number of votes cast by market participants for a particular participant, and by 35% from the assessment of Frank RG analysts. Another 30% depend on the following indicators: assets, rating, number of customers and offices, deposit rates. The final rating number is calculated using the weighting method, where the maximum rating is 100 points. The rating score for foreign banks is 50% dependent on the number of votes cast by Russian bankers and family offices, and 50% on the position in the Euromoney rating.
