July 29, 2018 08:51

Travelers go to Toscana for aromatic cheeses, to Thailand - for spicy treats and exotic fruits, and to Georgia - for juicy khinkali and tart wine. For some reason, only rare tourists make such tasty trips across the expanses of Russia! However, every region of Russia boasts its unique cuisine and some of them will gift truly unforgettable palatable experiences.

Thousand and One Pie of Dagestan

Dagestan cuisine is an incredible combination of color, smell and taste. Each small ethnic group living in the

Dagestan Republic has its own secrets of cooking the same traditional dishes! Thus, in one place you will eat a thin cake with pumpkin filling, and in another – a same-name cake with a delicious egg omelette!
Here they prepare their own variety of dumplings, often stuffing them with nettles instead of meat. Besides, in Dagestan you can enjoy fresh local pomegranates and grapes, which are exotic for Russia.

Altai Paradise of Fermented Dairy Food

Altai Mountains are mostly explored by hikers and campers set for long walks in the wild. If you are one of those travelers then the cuisine of nomadic peoples will be most suitable for you!
Local dishes are not only incredibly tasty, but also very nutritious!
Thus, kaimak, aarchi, bishtak and other dairy and sour-milk products have long been used by nomads to maintain good health.

Tatar Dishes with Stories

Traditions are an integral part of the Tatar cuisine. For example, a sweet pie with dried fruits, rice and cottage cheese is an obligatory treat for all the big Tatar holidays. The knowledge of the Tatar cuisine in most people is limited to chak-chak dessert and echpochmak pies. But in fact in
Tatarstan you will find really surprising, not to say strange, dishes. For example, pea porridge or cooked sausage tutyrm from giblets and rice. When travelling in Tatarstan you should definitely try local pilaf that was adopted from Central Asia and seasoned with local spices.

Ural Mushrooms and Berries

If you love mushroom dishes and mushroom hunting, then it is worth travelling in the Ural Mountains! Local people skillfully and very diversely prepare forest mushrooms of all kinds. They have developed a special recipe for mushroom pickles even.
Besides, juicy berries from the Ural Mountains are famous all over Russia. If you are not lucky enough to eat them fresh and raw here, you should definitely savor local berry jam! The locals are especially fond of serving lingonberry and sea buckthorn jams for tea.

Karelian Cuisine

Karelia is another popular Russian travel destination, where you can go on a totally delicious tour. Karelian cuisine adopted some recipes from Finland and Estonia, but has remained authentic still. Unexpected combinations are the specialty of Karelian cooks. Thus, one of their favorite dishes is fish with onion, cooked in milk. And traditional Karelian patties have the stuffing of potatoes, oatmeal and various cereals combined. But the most striking Karelian treat is certainly fish soup with the addition of moss! Of course, they use a special sort of moss, which turns out.

Buryat Cuisine

Thanks to the place of residence of the people and the nature of its activities, the Buryat Cuisine is characterized by incredible environmental friendliness, purity and lack of the main scourge of modernity – harmful additives, dyes, amplifiers. On their table only the most useful, natural, and most importantly – delicious.
