The winners of Golden Eagle Film Award 2012 were named. The National Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences of the Russian Federation chose the laureates of Golden Eagle award for the eleventh time.
The “Best National Film” of the last year, according to the academicians, went to "The White Tiger" by Karen Shakhnazarov - a mystical drama about World War II in which the Soviet tankman confronts the elusive German assault tank. Among all eight awards that "The White Tiger" claimed this film managed to get four. It won in the nominations "Best Musical Score" (Yuriy Poteyenko and Konstantin Shevelev), "Best Editing" (Irina Kozhemyakina) and "Best Sound" (Gulsara Mukataeva).
The largest number of "Golden Eagles" was received by the historical drama "The Horde" by Andrei Proshkin: the story about the journey of the Metropolitan of Moscow Alexiy to the Golden Horde was nominated for twelve awards and won five. Proshkin was named the “Best Director”, Yuri Arabov received one more prize for the film script (in the December of the last year he was given the critics` award "White Elephant" for "The Horde"), the academicians also awarded the work of the cameraman (Yuri Rayskiy), the art director (Sergei Fevralev) and the costume designer (Natalya Ivanova).
Victoria Tolstoganova who played her role in “The Spy” won the "Golden Eagle" as the “Best Supporting Actress”, Andrey Smolyakov received the same prize in the men's nomination for his role in "Vysotsky", and the “Best Actor” was named Danila Kozlovsky - the leading man in the film adaptation of the novel "Dukhless" (“Soulless”) by Sergei Minaev.
The nomination of the "Best Actress" was won by Anna Mikhalkova for her role in the romantic comedy "Love with an accent" by Rezo Gigineishvili.
As the “Best Non-Fiction Film” the academicians of the "Golden Eagle" award recognized the documentary history of an abandoned boy with autism "Anton`s Right Here" directed by the film critic and film expert Lubov Arkus, the same film also received the "White Elephant".
In the category of television films no leader was clearly defined. The “Best Television Film” was named "The White Guard” by Sergei Snezhkin, the “Best TV Series” was taken by “Zhukov” by Alexei Muradov, and the “Best Actors” were named Irina Rozanova for performing the leading role in the series “Furtseva. The Legend of Ekaterina", and Sergey Makovetsky for his role in “The Case of the Gastronome Number 1".
The cameraman Vadim Yusov who worked with Andrei Tarkovsky and Sergei Bondarchuk got the honorary "Golden Eagle" for his contribution to the world cinema, and winner of the award for his contribution to the Russian cinema became the businessman Viktor Vekselberg who supports Nikita Mikhalkov's fund "Urga - the territory of love".
Finally, the “Best Foreign Film” according to the Russian academicians was named with a delay of one year – it was the winner of the last year's "Golden Globe" and "Oscar", the silent black-and-white French film "The Artist" by Michel Hazanavichus.
