The Chelyabinsk Local History Museum collected the accounts of the eyewitnesses of the meteorite fall at the single exhibition.
The exhibition "The Space Wanderer: Eyewitnesses` Accounts" opened at the Chelyabinsk Local History Museum on Monday, 25 February 2013. The exposition contains documentary evidence of the meteorite explosion in the sky above the city on February 15, 2013 – mainly, the original photographs and video recordings.
The photographs are located in the "East -West" gallery. The pictures taken by professional photographers and amateurs from different cities of the region recorded the fall and the explosion of the celestial body above Chelyabinsk on February 15 in the morning, around 9.20 a.m. The photographer from Chelyabinsk Marat Ahmatvaleev was among the most successful - you could tell that he had prepared for this photo shoot in advance. “I usually go to my favorite place to photograph on Fridays. And today I did not miss the day. All was quiet, and then ... A flash appeared which after a few minutes was followed by a series of very powerful explosions. I vaguely remember my actions, I began to fuss, tried to photograph at least something. One picture clearly shows the firing point inside the cloud " - Marat wrote in his blog.
In addition, the specialists of the museum will tell the visitors about the formation of our galaxy and the geological history of the planet Earth. They will also outline one of the hypotheses of modern scholars telling that there was an astronomical observatory in the fortified settlement of Arkaim in the Chelyabinsk region more than four thousand years ago. The hall of nature and ancient history of the museum still reposits the unique exhibits – the evidence of that time. The exhibition of the collections will be accompanied by the story about the origin of meteorites and about the well-known cases of their fall to the Earth, including the territory of the Southern Urals.
