An exhibition “Gifts And Acquisitions. New Arrivals In A Collection Of Drawings of XVIII – Beginning of XX Century” opens on the 31-st of May, 2013 in the State Tretyakov gallery. The exhibition of new arrivals is a special genre of the museum’s exposition. This is a report about a search and research work of the museum; a show and scientific introduction of works kept earlier in private collections and often stayed unknown to specialists and public; a tribute of gratitude to private and social corporative grantors and patrons who made it possible for the museum to replenish and extend this collection.
About 200 works of original and printed drawings and also more than ten drawings albums were added to the exhibition. Timeframe of the show embraces a period from the beginning of the XVII century till 1930-s years. During the creation of the exposition a chronological principle and a wish to save an integrity of the gained collection were taken into account. Earliest works of the exhibition – three frontispieces of Gospel printed in 1606 in the Radishevskiy’s workshop open the exposition. According to the opinion of specialists they belong to the best patterns of printed drawings of the beginning of the XVII century. Two works of I.I. Levitan in pastel, the techniques which discover more colouristic gift of the artist “Blooming Garden” (1890-1893) and “Autumn scenery with a church” (1893-1895) should be referred to the most important acquisitions of a scenery genre. The collection of the Gallery was replenished by 14 brilliant works of N.N. Sapunov, patterns of a theatrical art of the beginning of the XX century.
All works demonstrated at the exhibition passed through a restoration. An annotated catalog was prepared specially for the exhibition. It includes a detailed article and 300 coloured illustrations.
The exhibition will last till the 3-rd of November 2013.
