The greatest sensation of the exhibition "100 works by Alexander Benois" in the gallery "Our artists" was the presentation of recently acquired artist’s notebooks belonging to 1924-1950 years. Alexander Benois is a great artist, and his works are nor forgotten. He is a creator, historian and art critic; his watercolors are sold at auctions; any research of Silver Age heritage has not been completed without the quotes from his reviews or memories. With all this, his last and the only major exhibition was held in the Tretyakov Gallery more than 40 years ago - in honor of the centenary of his birth. His heritage is great but the audience knows it very unevenly.
Melancholic portraits from "Versailles Series”, scenography of Diaghilev's performances "Le Pavillon d'Armide", "Petrushka" and “Solovei” are quite easily recognizable, but there are tens of works, familiar only to collectors. Precisely these works taken from private collections will be shown at the gallery “Our artists” in Moscow. For instance, watercolor "Fish Feeding" (1897) from the series "The last walk of Louis XIV", two works for Knebel publication "Pictures of Russian History”, creations reproduced in the famous postcards Community of St. Eugenia, that popularized the new Russian arts.
