The 9-th All-Russian festival of military history clubs, dedicated to Cossacks sieged in Azov in 1641 will be held on August 3, 2013 in Azov, the Rostov Region. Every year the festival gathers military history club members from different Russian (Rostov on Don, Moscow, Kolomna, Saratov, Voronezh, Anapa, Krasnodar) and Ukrainian cities.
The audience is attracted by traditional show of military history clubs, reconstruction of Azov fortress assault, sable tournament, traditional Russian martial art combats, folk bands performances and Don souvenirs fair.
Azov, the oldest city of Russian South, was the capital of Don Cossacks for 5 years since 1637 to 1642. Seizure by Cossacks in 1637 and following siege of 1642 when 5 thousand Cossacks fought back a 250 thousand Turkish army for 93 days made Azov a city of Cossack glory and gave rise to the history of Don Cossack Host.
During festival tourists can join excursions and interactive programs with visiting the exhibitions of Azov History and Paleontology museum preserve.
Reconstruction of Don Cossacks and Ottoman battle, the culmination point of the festival, is a large-scale open air spectacle, very fascinating show which is really better to see once.
Year by year the festival gains its spectacular and involvement strengths. Today it is not just a local funfair, but a great fest for the quests from other Russian regions and abroad.
