Akhmatova Days are held in St. Petersburg.
The works of Anna Akhmatova, whose 125th birthday is celebrated in the northern capital, have become the poetic chronicle of the twentieth century Russia. Akhmatova Days devoted to this date opened today at the National Library by the International Scientific Conference. The theme of the conference is: “Anna Akhmatova in the Space of Global Culture”. The reports analyze the spiritual connection of Akhmatova’s creations with Pushkin’s lyrics, with the works of Blok; the motives of Akhmatova's poetry are compared with those of her contemporaries from the UK, Italy, Germany, the USA; it is discussed how Akhmatova’s poetry is read in Asia.
The speakers are the literature critics from Israel, Italy, South Korea, Russia, France, Sweden, Finland and other countries. The sphere of interests of the researchers lays in love and civil poems by Akhmatova. Despite all hard times she had, Akhmatova never stopped writing poetry, expressing her link with the time by them. “When I wrote them, I lived by the rhythms that sounded in the heroic history of my country” - she stated.
The exhibition of artifacts opened on the same day in the Korff Hall, the artifacts including the first publications of the poems by Akhmatova in periodicals, lifetime editions of her works, her poems translated into different languages. The copies of the pages of the family album of Akhmatova’s archive stored in the manuscript department of the NLR (National Library of Russia) are also presented here, they are telling about the important stages of the poet’s difficult life. Researchers and readers were introduced to the second edition of the journal “Russian Literature” for 2014 with a large section devoted to the 125th anniversary of Akhmatova.
