Initiated by the Russian Museum in 2009, the Museum Contemporary Photo Biennale has already become a tradition.
The most notable pictures by 212 modern photographers from all over Russia can be seen in the Marble Palace of the Russian Museum from December 8, 2016 till February 1, 2017.
The exhibition demonstrates the richness of trends in contemporary Russian photography, while its format free from genre and technique frames, provides an opportunity to both professionals and amateurs to display their best works. Reasonable requirements for participation significantly expand the geographic scope - the exhibition brings together authors from 46 Russian cities and towns.
The exposition is made of eight topical sections, such as Stage, Everyday Lie, City, Nude, Still Life, Portrait, Religion, and Landscape. Photos included in each of the sections highlight individuality and variety of the authors' views and approaches to depicting similar scenes.
Photography has long been a significant part of art life. Just like any other visul art form, photogrphy employs classical composition, embodiment of feelings and the search for color nuances. Technologies are also diverse, from digital printing and silver bromide printing to ambrotype, collotype, and gum oil printing.
Every two years the Russian Museum's exhibition project becomes a point of attraction for Russian photographers and art lovers. The wide rage of artistic representation, geographic scope embracing the whole country, make the public's meeting with modern photogrphy engaging and meaningful. Traditionally, during the exhibition, the Russian Museum welcomes viewers to vote for their favorite work. The voting takes place at the exhibition itself, as well as on the website of the Russian Museum.
