The Victory Day on May 9 will be celebrated in all the districts of the Russian capital; concerts, performances and broadcasts of military machinery ceremonial parades will be held here.
The central venue of the Victory Day celebration in Moscow will traditionally be Red Square. A parade with the participation of 12.5 thousand troops and 120 pieces of military-grade hardware. However, it is hardly possible for general public to get access to Red Square on May 9. Alternately, you can select one of the many festive venues scattered throughout Moscow.
Concerts, Parade Broadcast and Photo Exhibition in the Heart of Moscow
On May 8 and 9, gala concerts will take place in the square in front of the Christ the Savior Cathedral. On Tuesday, the program will be held from 7 pm to 10 pm. The opera duet of Vasilisa Nikolaeva and Vladislav Kiryukhin, the Moscow Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra and others will perform for the audience.
On May 9, the celebrations will start here in the morning. The Victory Parade on Red Square will be broadcast on the street screens from 10 am. The free festive concert will begin here at noon and feature the winners of the All-Russian festival-competition “Crystal Starlets”, the soloists and orchestra of the Galina Vishnevskaya Opera Center, the Moscow State Symphony Orchestra for Children and Youth, and Quatro vocal band.
On the same days, concerts will be held in Poklonnaya Hill.
On May 8, the concert of the Moscow State Symphony Orchestra and musicians of the MosConcert will start here at 6 pm and continue till 9 pm.
On May 9, visitors to the park will see a live broadcast of the parade on the big screen. It will be followed with live music performed by the Mariinsky Theater Symphony Orchestra under the conductorship of Valery Gergiev, the Moscow State Academic Dance Theater “Gzhel”, the opera duo of Vasilisa Nikolaeva and Vladislav Kiryukhin, and others.
The evening concert from 7 am to 10 pm will feature Oleg Gazmanov, Diana Gurtskaya, Dmitry Kharatyan and other Russian pop music stars.
Lovers of silence, however, will also find something interesting in the city center during the holidays. The Face of Victory, a historical photo exhibition of archival images will be held in the Arbat Street, as well as Chistoprudny, Nikitsky and Gogol Boulevards on May 8 and 9.
Theaters in Parks
Visitors to numerous Moscow parks will also be able to see the Victory Parade broadcast starting at 10 am. After the passage of troops and military equipment, theatrical performances and concerts will start.
In the Izmailovo Park, the Moscow Drama Theater in Perovskaya, the Moscow Theater of Illusions, and singers Prokhor Shalyapin, Ostap and Zara will perform. After the silence minute at 6:55 pm, Alexander Buinov, Rodion Gazmanov, Brandon Stone and Julia Nachalova will continue the concert program.
In the Tsaritsyno Museum-Reserve, the celebrations in honor of the Victory Day will begin at 11 am. The groups of the Moscow Department of Culture will perform on stage. At 1 pm the citywide program starts here to feature the Musica Viva chamber orchestra, the Stas Namin Moscow Music and Drama Theater, the Trombone Show jazz band, the New Ballet theater, the Pyatnitsky State Academic Russian Folk Choir, and others.
The evening concert from 7 pm will present performers of the XXI Century TenorA art project, Yulia Kovalchuk, Alexey Chumakov, Oleg Gazmanov and the Fabrica music band.
Victory Fireworks
The series of the Victory Day 2019 celebrations will be traditionally crowned with grand Moscow fireworks. It will be launched over at least 15 Moscow parks at 10 pm. The Poklonnaya Hill, Sparrow Hills, Gorky Park, VDNKh, Moskvoretskaya Embankment, Zaryadye Park, and others are among them. One of the most colorful firework displays is expected in the Babushkinsky Park, where up to nine thousand volleys will be released.
