Results of the 19th Russian Animated Film Festival in Suzdal held from March 19 have been announced.
This year the jury has decided to not give the Grand Prix.
The first prize in the professional category goes to the animated film My Own Personal Moose directed by Leonid Shmelkov. This work has recently been granted award of the Generation Kplus program at the Berlin Film Festival. The Man Meets the Woman by the film director Dmitri Geller and Brut directed by Svetlana Filippova have shared the second and third prizes in the professional category at the Suzdal Animation Festival. Dmitry Geller has also taken the film critics’ award For Expression of Style and Feeling, whereas Svetlana Filippova has also won the Tatarsky Prize.
According to the festival jury, the best film director is Vasily Chirkov with his work Other Coasts (almanac Zerkalo N1), who has also become the best debutant.
The best full-length animated film is Ku! Kin-dza-dza created by Georgi Daneliya and Tatyana Ilyina.
The best visual technique prize goes to Valentina Urm with her animated film Toro Danza, and the best animated image prize has been awarded to Tatyana Kiselyova for her film titled Can.
The Bear’s Day by Oksana Kholodova has been recognized the best animation for children, and The Plasticine Alphabet by Sergey Merinov is the best series, according to the jury.
The best drama prize goes to the animation Buratino Returns by Yekaterina Mikhailova, and the applied animation prize has been given to the 20th Krok festival bumper created by Svetlana Andrianova.
Asya Strelbitskaya with The Hat Theory takes the prize in the best sound nomination and The Focus by Maria Matusevich has become the best student’s work.
Some of the works have gained festival certificates to their creators, among them the film directors Alexander Khramtsov, Inna Evlannikova, and Vadim Sotskov for the animation Belka and Strelka: Moon Adventures. The prize Fortune goes to Yelena Gutman for her work Ñloud and Trousers, and the TV Channel Carousel awards Choosy Mouse by Sergey Strusovsky as the best children's movie.
There were two panels of judges. The independent animation jury included the art director Arkady Melik-Sargsyan, the animated film director Alexey Alekseev, the director, screenwriter, and animation artist Irina Kodyukova, the director Vadim Abdrashitov and the composer Alexey Rybnikov. Commercial animation was estimated by the jury consisting of the TV host Irina Muromtseva, the producer Dmitry Loveyko, who is one of organizers of the Animakkord animation studio, the animated film director Yury Kulakov, the ex-general director of the Bazelevs Distribution company Ruslan Tatarintsev.
It is a reminder that the All-Russian Animation Festival in Suzdal has been annually held since 1996 and covers all types of animated films created in this country. More than 1500 animated film directors, artists, screenwriters, sound producers and other animation professionals from 40 studios, as well as freelance artists, students and fans of animation get together at the festival in Suzdal.
This is Russia’s only animation festival with the professional system of prizes. All the animation film production created within the year is reviewed at the Suzdal forum. The contest program embraces not only studio films, but also students’ works, as well as applied animation, such as commercials and music videos.
Acknowledged animation experts are invited to estimate winners in all nominations of the independent animation contest. The jury traditionally includes outstanding masters from other cinema areas as well: composers, feature film directors and actors.
