The 6th International Platonov's Arts Festival will take place in Voronezh from June 2 to June 14, 2016.
The festival named after Andrey Platonov, one of the most outstanding Russian writers of the 20th has been held in Voronezh since 2011. The festival generated under direct patronage of the Voronezh Region governor Alexey Gordeev has become the main cultural project of the region. It gives the audience a chance to join remarkable creative achievements in a range of various arts and aims to make Voronezh one of the leaders of the Russian culture.
The International Platonov's Art Festival is annually held in the Music, Theatre, Fine Arts and Literature categories. In 2014 new sections appeared in the festival program: World Music presents to the audience the best achievements of musical culture of various peoples, whereas the Street Theatres carry out a number of free events with participation of teams from Russia and Europe.
Over four years renowned contemporary musicians, actors, artists and writers have participated in the festival.
The Literature category of the Platonov's Festival boasts a variety of interesting projects, such as the Platonov's Club that unites literary, scientific and cultural communities of Russia and other countries, Translation Workshop, relay reading of Andrey Platonov's books, unique publishing projects, meet-the-artist sessions with the famous Russian writers and poets, including Alexey Varlamov, Victor Erofeyev, Zakhar Prilepin, Sergey Gandlevsky, Lev Rubenstein, Yevgeny Grishkovets, Dmitry Bykov, Pavel Basinsky, Marina Moskvina, Vera Pavlova, Vladimir Sharov, Yury Nechiporenko and others.
The Book Fair with participation of independent book publishing houses, a children's program, street shows and open free concerts is carried out as part and parcel of the festival in Voronezh.
The Theatrical program falls into three parts: an international program, Platonov's program and a program joined with the Gold Mask Festival.
The visitors will see 12 stage productions from various countries of the world. Five performances will be shown in Russia for the first time. These are the Romanian play The Rhinoceroses, a touching clownery named White on White, the dance show Texture featuring a Japanese ballerina, an Austrian choreographer's staging The Ideal Garden and the hip-hop-opera The City. Classical Chekhov's play Three Sisters told in the finger language will become the most unusual stage production of the festival.
The Music program this year brings together musicians from 15 countries. The audience will listen to six academic concerts, as well as unique open-air projects in the White Well, the Scarlet Sails Park and Ramoni in front of the Oldenburg Palace. An open-air theater in the restored Dynamo Park will be another venue of the festival this year. It will present the Scottish group LAU, the eccentric trio Violons Barbares from Bulgaria, Mongolia and France, and young Afro-American stars who will sing opera classics to the accompaniment of the Voronezh Youth Symphonic Orchestra .
