Short List of International Film Festival Flahertiana 2016
July 29, 2016 10:13

This year the documentary film festival traditionally held in Perm will be anthropocentric. The international program of Flahertiana 2016 has included 15 out of 700 submitted documentaries.

The geography of the competition is extremely extensive: The USA, Italy, Spain, Great Britain, Luxembourg, Portugal, France, countries of Northern Europe – and that is not yet the full list.
One of the most eminent films is The Family Affair directed by Tom Fassart from the Netherlands. The film opened the IDFA festival in Amsterdam, won several international awards, and participated in the documentaries contest of the 38th Moscow International Film Festival (MIFF).

The short list of the international program of Flahertiana includes a movie by the famous Russian director Victor Kosakovsky. The film Varicella is about two sisters of 13 and 7 years of age who study in a prestigious academy of the Russian ballet. It tells story about heartful and confidential relations of the girls united by one big dream.

Two Russian films will participate in the international competition. 24 Snows by the director Mikhail Barynin is about life of a Yakut horse breeder. This year the film has won the Audiencec Award at the MIFF. The second Russian film is INTRO directed by Yulia Panasenko. It is the sequel of her movie OUTRO, which took the Grand Prix of Flahertiana 2011. All competitive movies at the festival in Perm will be personally presented by their authors.
Pavel Pechyonkin, President of the Flahertiana festival:
– The subject matters of films change along with changes of the environment and they reflect changes of the world and people in this regard. The central idea of all the works is "The person is the single measure". It is the principle of selecting films for the competition and logic of the festival in general as proclaimed in Robert Flaherty's esthetics.

The 16th International Documentary Film Festival Flahertiana will take place from September 16 to September 23. Along with the international competition there will be a national program and a student program.
