The 9th International Festival "Masterpieces of World Classics in Cathedral" runs in Kaliningrad from September 10.
Its program includes works by great composers of the past and classics of the present, as well as performances by maestros of Russian classical music.
"Everything included into the festival has been time tested. The St. Petersburg Choral Chapel under conductorship of Vladislav Chernushenko will perform almost in its full strength, with 62 persons taking part. Very interesting is the visit of the European Philharmonic Orchestra, with musicians of the Baltic countries and Russia making an intergral part of it" — the Cathedral' acting director Arkadi Feldman pointed out.
The festival was opened with an unusual concert: the composition for organ and narrator Labyrinth of the World and Paradise of Heart performed by Alexey Gryzunov, an actor of the Kaliningrad Regional Drama Theater and Evgeny Avramenko, the Cathedral's organist, the winner of international and All-Russian competitions. The concert was accompanied with video content.
On September 18 the Kaliningrad Regional Symphonic Orchestra will play in memory of Richard Wagner.
On September 16 music to Pyotr Tchaikovsky's ballet The Swan Lake will for the first time be performed in Kaliningrad in arrangement of the Baltic Sea Philharmonic Orchestra's conductor Christian Yarvi.
Altogether the festival held with assistance of the Culture Ministry will consist of nine musicales involving the best musicians. The "Masterpieces of World Classics in the Cathedral" festival will last till October 2.
