Stage productions by leading European choreographers, art exhibitions, film screenings, master classes and round tables make an extensive program of the Diaghilev. P.S. festival, one of the main cultural events of autumn in Russia. St. Petersburg will be visited by the famous troupe of Maurice Béjart, conductor Theodor Kurentzis, composer Krzysztof Penderecki, and other outstanding figures of art. The forum will take place on the leading theatrical stages and creative venues of the city on Neva.
The opening ceremony is taking place on the stage of the Bolshoi Drama Theatre today, November 20th. The legendary troupe Maurice Béjart's Ballet from Lausanne under the conductorship of Gilles Roman will perform four one-act ballets tonight.
The photo exhibition Chorégraphismes authored by Francois Paolini and started in KGallery yesterday is dedicated to Béjart's creativity. From November 23rd visitors will see the exposition Stilled Movement by the American photographer Luís Greenfield.
The White Dance Theater from Poland will give at the festival three performances based on various countries' ancient legends, namely Fedra, A Girl and the Death, and Tristan and Izolda.
Russia is represented at the festival with the Orchestra of the Perm Opera and Ballet Theatre, which will perform music from Sergey Prokofiev's ballet Romeo and Juliette. The concert is timed to the renowned composer's anniversary and will be held under the conductorship by Theodor Kurentzis, the head of the MusicAeterna Orchestra.
The festival Diaghilev. P.S. will be crowned with the ballet Romeo and Juliette staged by choreographer Vyacheslav Samodurov and performed by the troupe of the Opera and Ballet Theater from Yekaterinburg. One day earlier Vyacheslav Samodurov will give a master class.
Among the festival events there are also exhibitions on the ballet art at the Samoylov Museum and the Sheremetev Palace. Cinema lovers will enjoy the feature film Polina by Angelin Preljocaj and Evgenia Tirdatova's documentary about the legendary Russian ballet dancer Rudolf Nureyev.
