Shukshin Days in Altai

The All-Russian FestivalShukshin Days” dedicated to the renowned Russian writer, actor and film director, Vasily Shukshin, attracts more and more tourists every year. The large-scale event kicks off on July 18 to present a program that is especially extensive in honor of the jubilee of the Altai Territory.
This year the organizers of the Shukshin Days had to create three posters: a general, a literary and a cinematographic one, since the festival has expanded its boundaries, with a number of new events introduced.

The festival will start in the Shukshin Street near his monument in Barnaul at 1 pm. The opening ceremony of the 19th All-Russian Shukshin Film Festival will begin in the V.M. Shukshin Regional Drama Theater at 6:30 pm.

For Book Lovers:

The current literary crew includes Eugene Vodolazkin, the holder of the Russian national literary award Big Book; poet and prose writer Alexander Kerdan, the winner of the Big Literary Award of Russia and Robert Rozhdestvensky Award; Vladimir Molchanov, a member of the Writers' Union of the USSR and a corresponding Member of the Poetry Academy; and poetess Maria Markova, the winner of the Russian President Award for Young Cultural Figures.

On July 18 and 19, creative meetings with writers will be traditionally held in Barnaul (Shishkovka), Biysk (in the Shukshin Central State Library), Belokurikha and Srostki. For the first time, the events of the Literary Crossroads will be organized in Pavlovsk (inter-settlement library), Bystry Istok (at the Zolotukhin Memorial Complex) and Novoaltaysk (at the city library).

Full-Length and Short-Length

The main competition program of the 19th All-Russian Shukshin Film Festival has eventually included 9 feature films.

These are "After You" directed by Anna Matison and starring Sergey Bezrukov; social drama "The Bird" directed by Maria Baskakova and featuring Ivan Okhlobystin; "The Time of the First" directed by Dmitry Kiselev and starring Yevgeny Mironov and Konstantin Khabensky; the military drama "Ivan" by Alena Davydova, the film "Sneak-ers" by Sergei Solovyov, and others.

The opening ceremony will present an out-of-competition film, "Do not Wait" with Oleg Basilashvili and Yevgeny Knyazev in the leads. The film will be introduced by the film director Victor Merezhko, the chairman of the Shukshin Film Festival jury.

Films of the main program can be watched in Barnaul (cinema theatres "Mir", "Europe", "Fires", and "Premiere"); Biysk (shopping centre Voskresenie), Belokurikha, Srostki, Bystry Istok and Pospelikha.

Within the framework of the Shukshin Film Festival, the short-length film competition will be held for the first time. About 20 works have been selected for it.

In the Thick of Action

The Sobolev Literary Soirees will begin in the Smolensk village of the same-name district at 11 am on Friday, July 21. And it is going to be lively at the All-Russian Shukshin Memorial Museum Estate.

Alexander Volobuev’s photo exhibition "Oxygen of Picket. Srostki Forever" will be opened at 1 pm. The stage impersonation festival "Characters" based on Vasily Shukshin's prose will take place at the Green Stage.

Folk festivities will kick off in Srostki on Saturday morning. The highlight event will be the song festival "Visiting Shukshin".
