Festival "Jubilee of Moscow 870"
September 7, 2017 15:45

The 870th birthday of Moscow will be celebrated with a grandiose festival in the style of the Russian avant-garde in early September. A total of 40 thematic areas are expected, each of them telling about the people and events that have become famous all over the world.

The City Day officially falls on September 9, but celebrations have started a week earlier. One of the most large-scale events will be the grand festival "The Jubilee of Moscow 870", on September 9 and 10. The festival will be held at 40 venues, most of them located in the city center and parks. Each playground will offer a rich and extensive cultural program and original design in the style of the Russian avant-garde. It is this trend of modernism that is recognized as absolutely original throughout the world.

The main concept of the festival is built around the slogan “Moscow is the city where history is created”. At exhibitions, concerts and street performances you will learn about people and achievements in various fields: from science and art to construction and military victories.

More than ten million people are expected to visit the festive venues. They will get acquainted with inventions by outstanding Moscow engineers, recall the names of famous composers and artists, learn about the history of important city constructions, and trace the roads of significant military campaigns. The main events of the festival will be held at the weekend of September 9 and 10.

Where to go
Numerous Moscow venues and institutions will join the festival celebrations. Special art objects will be installed for the Moscow City Day 2017 to illustrate achievements of cultural figures, athletes, architects and many others. Four stages for memorial concerts will be set up in Luzhniki. In the Arbat Street, which has long been considered the most cultural place of the Moscow, classical music concerts and walking tours will be arranged. Young people will be attracted to dizzying tricks and fashion shows on the Stroginskaya Floodplain. There is space for good deeds as well - a large-scale charity festival will be held in Tsvetnoy Boulevard.

City Day in Tverskaya Street
One of the main sites for the celebration of the City Day will be Tverskaya Street. September 9 and 10 will see spectacular performances of acrobats and wakeboard makers, as well as fragments of stage productions that enjoy success and popularity at Moscow theaters. Visitors will have a chance to jump on the Olympic trampoline and taste the dishes of the Moscow cuisine from various epochs.

Festive Events in Moscow Parks
Moscow parks will also join the celebration of the 870th anniversary of the capital city of Russia. Street performances in Gorky Park, the presentation of a new art genre in the Museon, and a horse show at Poklonnaya Gora are just a few of the exciting events coming.

Festive Fireworks

Of course, the final bright chord will be fireworks. They will be arranged at several places at the same time, the Red Square being the main of them.
