Gala Ñoncert "The Stars of Benois de la Danse" at Bolshoi Theatre Presents Winners of 25 Years

At the end of May, the 25th anniversary of the international ballet festival and award “Benois de la Danse” will be celebrated on the Historical Stage of the Bolshoi Theatre. The audience will see not only the top works of the past year, but also a cut of all the best achieved in the world ballet in the last quarter of a century.
May 30 will see the gala concert "Defile of Stars" Benois de la Danse and New Winners".
May 31 will be highlighted with “The Stars of Benois de la Danse” – Winners for Quarter of a Century”.

"Benois de la Danse" is a ballet festival founded in 1991 and annually held in Moscow since then. The festival was created with the intention to bring together the best stage productions and the most skilful representatives of different ballet schools and contemporary dance trends on the stage of one theater. And the organizers have succeeded, indeed.

A true parade of ballet talents, techniques, and schools, the gala concert will feature all the participants of the grand-scale festival. Ballet connoisseurs will give big points to the future stars of the world ballet, and there should be a few dancers who are going to gain worldwide fame: Sergey Filin and Ulyana Lopatkina danced at the festival in 1994 and 1997 respectively.

The Benois de la Danse Festival was named after Russian artist Alexander Benois, and his grandson designed the statuette, which is handed to the winners. The statuette of Benois de la Danse Award is given in three nominations: the Best Ballet Dancer and the Best Ballerina, as well as the Best Choreographer. Besides, there is another nomination under the title "For Life in Art" - it is meant for composers and stage designers. This year, the prize "For Life in Art" will be conferred on wonderful ballet dancer, choreographer and ballet director Marcia Haydée Salaverry Pereira da Silva from Brazil.

The art director of the festival is the famous choreographer Yuri Grigorovich. The ballet festival will present the brightest works of last year and all the ballet gems created over the last 25 years.

M. Ek and A. Laguna will tell about the everyday life of one family in the miniature production "Memory". The duets of I.Vasiliev and M.Vinogradova, as well as M.Valter and Y.Salenko will perform the dance of Nacho Duato. In addition, the audience will see them performing a fragment from the famous stage production "The Bat". The duet of W. Marshan and M. Zhilo will perform a piece of the "Signs" ballet by Carolyn Carlson. This production once gained them the main prize of Benois de la Danse.

Isaac Hernández and Tamara Rojo will show a miniature production of Hans van Manen. Alessio Carbone will perform Bejart’s choreography. François Alu and Leonore Baulac will perform the last creation of William Forsythe. Lucia Lacarra & Marlon Dino in duet will perform a dance in choreography by Russell Maliphant. Olga Smirnova & Semen Chudin will dance their go-to, Auber Grand Pas Classique.
