Enjoy City Jazz Festival in Moscow during FIFA World Cup
June 27, 2018 14:10

City Jazz is a large-scale open-air jazz festival held for the second time in one of the most picturesque places of Moscow - the Botanical Garden of the Moscow State University. Throughout the summer, the festival presents the most remarkable jazzmen, including both Russian and foreign bands.
The festival aims at introducing the audience to the outstanding jazz performers and various jazz directions: the melodies of New Orleans alternate with funk, and the big band swing takes turns with hot flamenco, and so on. Jazz language is first and foremost improvisation and freedom. Hence each and every jazz concert can be called truly unique – every time a new version of a music piece is literally born on the stage. The brilliant opportunity to hold and attend a jazz festival in a unique Moscow venue – the Pharmacy Garden, where the plantation changes along with the seasons – is most natural and organic.

From June 29 to July 1, 2018, the Big Band Festival will be held for the first time in the framework of the music program “City Jazz”.

June 29 - C-Jam Club Jazz Orchestra
C-Jam Club Jazz Orchestra will perform funk, compositions and arrangements by Michael Abene, Raphael Ressnig, and George Gorbov from the orchestra’s unique joint programs with the stars of European jazz. The orchestra is well-known for joint projects with world jazz stars, such as Grammy Awards holder Michael Abene, the conductor of the WDR Big Band, Art Blakey’s legendary trumpeter Valery Ponomarev, avant-garde composer Bryan Irvine, and Raphael Wressnig, the guru of Hammond organ. Over the years of their career, the Orchestra has gained popularity among the youth and intellectuals at the best jazz clubs of Moscow. Their concerts invariably gather full halls of orchestral funk fans. C-Jam Club Jazz Orchestra stands out with an original style, recognizable manner and powerful energy. Bright soloists, dense brass riffs, fast passages and rhythm section grooves capture the listeners from the first notes and till the end of a gig. The orchestra is headed by baritone saxophonist Georgy Gorbov, a graduate of the Maimonides Academy and an intern at the Berklee College of Music. The singers are Maria Odinokova and Magdalena Tamayo. The soloists are Anatoly Osipov, Ivan Akatov, Vyacheslav Keizerov, Andrei Antonov, Bogdan Shaykhudinov, Andrei Lipatov, and Georgy Gorbov.
