This year, Shrovetide festivities will be held in 15 places of Moscow – in its streets, squares and boulevards. Children and adults will have all chances to rollick in a fun, tasty and beneficial way throughout the Pancake Week: taste unusual types of pancakes and learn to cook them, attend master classes in arts-and-crafts, ride on merry-go-rounds and participate in folk round dances.

More than 200 performances and about 150 concerts will be held at the open-air festival Moscow Maslenitsa. You can find them in 15 venues from March 1 to 10. The shows will take place on the stages located in Revolution Square and Tverskaya Square, in Profsoyuznaya, Gorodetskaya, Yartsevskaya, Novopeschanaya, Khachaturian and Mitinskaya streets, in Dmitry Donskoy Boulevard and Orekhovy Boulevard, in Glory Square of Moscow, as well as in Yunost Square in Zelenograd town and Sirenevy Boulevard in Troitsk town of the Moscow Region.

In Manezhnaya Square and the walkway towards Revolution Square, interactive performances will be held right in the street, so passersby will be engaged into the action. Visitors will see costume shows, performances of folk groups and interactive productions with the characters of popular Russian fairy tales.
March 1, 2019, will see the play "Ruslan and Lyudmila" by the independent theater "Trickster" in Profsoyuznaya Street at 6 pm. The classical fairy-tale written by Alexander Pushkin after ancient Russian epics, has been reinterpreted in a modern way.
In Tverskaya Square, you will be welcomed to not only watch the shows, but take part in them as well. Three times a day, at 1 pm, 2 pm and 3 pm, the actors together with the audience will perform interactive productions inspired by Russian fairy tales.

The festival program includes the stage productions of the project “Golden Mask in the City” as well. They will be shown by five puppet theaters from the Moscow Region, St. Petersburg, Karelia, Yekaterinburg and Penza. Specially for the celebrations of the Pancake Week in Moscow, they have selected performances based on Russian fairy tales. Altogether there will be 23 shows.

Pancakes
Pancakes are certainly the main symbol and attribute of the Pancake Week. If you go to Tverskaya Square, they will teach you to cook fabulous pancakes according to the recipes written down by poet Alexander Pushkin in his all-favourite fairytales: pancakes with honey and halvah, with spelt and apples. Of course, the most pleasant moment will come when the delicacy is ready and you can enjoy it.

Folk Arts and Crafts
Folk traditions of the Pancake Week can hardly be imagined without popular folk crafts. City of Craftsmen and Decor Bureau welcome children to workshops in making pottery and folk style painting respectively. If you want to create a ritual Shrovetide doll or master the Khokhloma painting technique, visit Dmitry Donskoy Boulevard. In the “House of Folk Crafts”, you will be trained to weave traditional fabric belts and sculpt clay figurines.
