On July 6 and 7, 2019, the 5th Igor Butman International Festival “Jazz Seasons” will take place at the Museum-Reserve Gorki Leninskie.
This year the event will once again gather dozens of Russian and foreign jazz musicians and several thousand listeners.
In 2018, “Jazz Seasons” entered the TOP 10 best open-air jazz festivals in Russia.
“For us, “Jazz Seasons” is a festival that gives us aesthetic pleasure from what we hear and what we see around ... What makes our concerts in Gorki special? Great sound. All the bands’ sound is just amazing there! It is surprising how nature, alleys, trees, and the Morozov’s Manor create not only a special atmosphere, but also some kind of acoustic paradise,” - the art director of the Festival, a famous saxophonist, the People’s Artist of Russia Igor Butman noted.
Headlining the Jazz Seasons 2019 will be world-famous trumpeter and conceptualist Christian Scott, American organist Larry Goldings and his trio, as well as the festival residents, namely Igor Butman and his Moscow Jazz Orchestra.
Christian Scott, a New York trumpeter from New Orleans, is one of the most brilliant musicians who took the jazz stage over the past few years. His debut album Rewind That was released on Concord Records in 2006 and was nominated for a Grammy award as “the best album of modern jazz”.
Since 1991, organist and pianist Larry Goldings, guitarist Peter Bernstein and drummer Bill Stewart, presented in the New York Times as the best organ trio of the last decade, have taken a very special place in the rich history of jazz. Their adventurous eclecticism generates a special musical realm, easily conveying all the depth, lyrics and complexity of their author's compositions.
Igor Butman is rightly considered the main ambassador of Russian jazz music on the world stage. In 1999, he founded his famous Moscow Jazz Orchestra. Over the 20 years of its existence, it has established itself as one of the leading orchestras in the world and the main catalyst for the development of jazz music in Russia.
For twenty years, these musicians have been regularly representing this country at the most prestigious festivals in Europe, Asia and America. In October 2017, the orchestra became the headliner of the World Festival of Youth and Students. In 2018, they became the world’s first orchestra to perform at the main jazz event of the planet - the All-Star Global Concert of the International Jazz Day.
Over the past five years alone, the Moscow Jazz Orchestra, titled “a constellation of virtuosos” by the famous magazine JazzTimes, has given more than 500 concerts in Russia, and has repeatedly toured in South Korea, India, China, Italy, Canada, France, Great Britain, Latvia, Germany and the USA. The big band performed in the best concert venues of the planet with Natali Cole, New York Voices, Kevin Mahogany, George Benson, Gino Vanelli, Wynton Marsalis, Larry Corriell, Billy Cobham, Bill Evans, Randy Brecker, Joe Lovano, Garry Burton, Curry, Curry, Curry, Joe Lovano, Curry, Curryon, Joe Lovano, Keffham, Bill Evans, Kendham, Berry, Joe Lovano, Kendham, Billi Evans, Randy Brekker, Joe Lovano, Garry Burton, Joe Lovano, Kendham and many other jazz legends.
In addition to jazz music lovers, the festival will traditionally attract the fans of painting and sports, as well as those just willing to spend their weekend in the open air with relatives and friends.
