Back in 1989 a few figures of underground culture took over several buildings at the address 10, Pushkinskaya. Thus the Free Culture association came to be. After 10 years of struggle between free artists and the establishment the first Russian Museum of Nonconformist Art was generated. It gained recognition in Russia after its acknowledgmenet abroad: the art center Pushkinskaya 10 is a member of the international organizations Trans Europe Halles and Res Artis. The art center became a representative of the Russian modern culture at the festivals St. Petersburg in New York (1996) and St. Petersburg in Warsaw (1997). The present art center includes a music cafe, a theater, a film studio, a publishing house, art galleries, an archive, a library and, in addition, the Office of John Lennon Temple of Love, World and Music created by Russia's most famous beatlemaniac Kolya Vasin. It is based on Kolya Vasin's Collection, which keeps a CD sent to Kolya by John Lennon himself, the star's t-shirt and an autograph of his widow Yoko Ono. Today Pushkinskaya 10 is the only independent non-state self-governed creative commune in Russia. Its open hours are from 4 pm to 8pm every day except Monday and Tuesday. It is located at the address 10, Pushkinskaya Street, near the Ploshchad Vosstaniya metro, Saint Petersburg. The official site of the Pushkinskaya 10 art center is www.p-10.ru
