Modern Art Museums of Saint Petersburg
January 31, 2016 22:57

Saint Petersburg boasts a number of modern art museums and art centres that present non-conformist art, second avant-garde art, modern interior design, street art and what not.

Art Center "Pushkinskaya 10"
Back in 1989 a few figures of underground culture took over several buildings at the address 10, Pushkinskaya. Thus the Free Culture association came to be. Today Pushkinskaya 10 is the only independent non-state self-governed creative commune in Russia.

Nonconformist Art Museum
The Nonconformist Art Museum is an exhibition center aimed at popularizing and studying the informal art of Russia, the countries of the American continent and the Old World. Independent experts work at the museum and The Club of Independent Researchers of Modern Visual Art successfully functions there.

New Museum
It is the first private museum representing the history of development of the Russian nonconformist art of the last decades. New Museum has taken its niche in the system of museum collections as the keeper and a representative of the "second avant-garde" that grew up at the joint of two millennia.

Mokhovaya 18 Modern Art Gallery
Three spacious halls of the gallery display graphic art, painting, sculpture, photography and arts and crafts. Visitors can observe works of modern art  and even purchase art objects here or broaden their horizon at lectures and master classes held in the gallery.

Marina Gisich Gallery
The private gallery is a commercial organization focusing on modern art, painting, sculpture, photography and videoart. Its main objective is supporting and promoting modern artists and selling their works. The gallery cooperates with the best Russians and foreign curators.

BULTHAUP Design Gallery
The Design/Bulthaup Gallery consisting of a few studios embracing all directions of modern design is the largest interior gallery in Saint Petersburg, and  a design center highly acknowledged in this country and abroad.

Street Art Museum
Futurists became the forefathers of modern street art. Modern masters are guided by their postulate: "May streets be the celebration of art for all". The idea of creating the museum of street-born arts, the very principle of which contradicts to the concept of a closed area is an innovative experience for this country.
