The popularly known as Fairytale House, the Pertzov's Guest House is located at the corner of Prechistenskaya Embankment and Soymonovsky Drive in Moscow.
This unusual guest house was built at the beginning of the 20th century at the request of Mr. Pertsov, an ardent admirer of arts. The engineer wanted to build a house with both residential apartments and art studios. Moreover, he wished it to become an art work, the very appearance of which would demonstrate the authenticity of the Russian culture.
The building consists of a set of sophisticated elements, but all of them smoothly dovetail into one another. Such unification of bizzare shapes into a sculpturesque single whole is characteristic of Art Nouveau. By the way the house was designed by none other than Sergey Malyutin, the creator of the world-famous Russian nesting doll Matryoshka!
The house facade and other parts are decorated with traditional Russian design motives, such as tower-chamber balconies, images of mythical animals and magic plants, and iconic patterns.
In 1908-1910 the building housed the Bat cabaret, which was popular among artistic visitors and frequented by famous Russian theatre figures and stage directors, such as Vladimir Nemirovich-Danchenko and Konstantin Stanislavsky. They were fond of arranging circus shows, magic tricks, and gags there.
This historical house with Russian fairytale looks is one of the fairytale places of Moscow.
