Best Moscow Museums of Contemporary Art

Moscow Museum of Modern Art
It is Russia's first state museum that specializes in art of the late 20th - early 21st centuries. The museum traces the main stages of the origin and further development of avant-garde art. The biggest part of the collection consists of Russian art works, though a considerable section is given to works by foreign artists. Besides the main building the Moscow Museum of Modern Art has four other branches that are part and parcel of this museum.

National Centre for Contemporary Arts in Moscow
The National Centre for Contemporary Arts  (NCCA) is a large-scale multidisciplinary organization with its main building in Moscow. It aims at supporting and promoting the modern Russian art of any trends and styles as well as bringing it to the world level and including it into international art processes.

WINZAVOD Centre for Contemporary Arts
A former desolate winery was turned into a culture oasis in 2007 and now it is one of the largest exhibition venues of Moscow. By 2010 WINZAVOD became one of the most popular leisure and entertainment places among the modern youth.
Today the complex consists of art galleries, twenty shops, educational workshops and three unusual cafes.

Garage Museum of Contemporary Art
Garage is a highly acclaimed international expert in the sphere of contemporary art. Its activities embrace exhibition, educational and research areas. The museum introduces the audience to works of modern Russian and foreign art, encourages domestic artists to take the world stage, carries out research projects, confers grants, organizes lectures, seminars and film screenings.

Flacon Design Factory
Flacon Design Factory came to be one of the first creative clusters in Moscow. It is a place where one can freely create, self-express and just enjoy creative friendly atmosphere. Flacon has numerous showrooms, workshops, restaurants, art cafes, and is a venue for concerts, performances, and various events.

Multimedia Art Museum
It is also known to art lovers as Moscow House of Photography. The museum opened in the mid 1990s came to be a real break-through for cultural life of Russia. Nowadays the Multimedia Art Museum is not just a museum with multitude of magnificent art photos but an art and educational complex of grand scale. Along with photos, worth seeing are vivid and high-quality performances held here with the use of trendsetting technologies.

MARS Modern Art Center
MARS Center has a collection of  about 3000 works by remarkable Russian artists of the second half of the 20th century. The museum has experienced a modern resurgence: keeping abreast of the times, MARS Center has resorted to fresh language of multimedia art.

Artplay Design Center
Exhibitions, concerts, festivals, lectures, workshops, design and architecture studios – here is a whole realm for creative work and rest in the center of Moscow. Artplay is a place that representatives of creative professions find equally comfortable both to work and to rest in. In 2008 it was Russia's first creative cluster. Today Artplay is a well settled brand. The main activities of companies within the cluster are design, architecture and art. 

Sokol Modern Art Center
It is a new Moscow modern art venue with big ambitions. The Sokol Modern Art Center is the first functioning site of conglomerate for creative youth and art lovers. Here young artists and curators will be given an opportunity to hold exhibitions, discussions, lectures, conferences, and master classes. The modern art centre will bring together both Russian and foreign creative youth.

Laboratoria Art & Science Space in Moscow
It is Russia's first noncommercial research center, which focuses on creating platforms for interdisciplinary interaction of modern art and science. It is a venue for meetings, discussions, round tables and master classes of scientists, artists and all those interested in shaping the Russian and international Science Art community.
