Moscow State History Museum is the largest museum of the national history of Russia. Here you will find priceless monuments of archeology, numismatics, ancient Russian paintings and books, weapons, as well as works of fine and decorative arts. The museum's collections number about 5 million museum items and more than 14 million documents.

In 2006, the Historical Museum had work on its permanent exposition completed. 39 halls on two floors illustrate the history of Russia from ancient times to the early 20^th century. The exposition starts on the first floor, which is dedicated to primitive society, Old Rus’, feudal fragmentation, fight against foreign invaders, the unification of Russia, its cultural traditions, and the mastering of Siberia. The second floor displays Russia from the era of Peter I: politics, economy, and culture of the Russian Empire.

The museum space of 4 thousand square meters houses about 22 thousand exhibits. To get around the exposition you need to make more than 4 thousand steps, which equals to 3 km approximately. This is the museum scale in figures. If you spend about one minute for every exhibit, it will take you about 36 hours altogether.

The museum is the winner of the contest "Changing Museum in a Changing World" with its 2008 project " Archeology Museum for Blind Children at the History Museum" and 2012 project "Red Square: Observation Site".
