Petersburg Planetarium

Here you can make an incredible journey through the expanses of the universe, unravel the riddles of the solar system and celestial bodies, the origin of animal and plant kingdoms, and fathom the mysteries of natural elements and phenomena.

The Planetarium of the "Znanie" Society of St. Petersburg and the Leningrad Region is one of the largest ones in Russia. The planetarium offers a lot of opportunities for expanding scientific knowledge in the field of astronomy and physics, natural history and geography.


The Star Hall of the planetarium tells about the origin of the world, distant galaxies and celestial phenomena. Unique digital technologies and the Planetarium device enable visitors to observe the starry sky of any part of the Earth and at any time, as well as the annual and daily movement of planets, nebulae, comets and meteor showers, lunar eclipse and the Milky Way.


The interactive hall Space Travel turns children and adults alike into the members of a spacecraft crew. It is easy and simple to make your childhood dream come true - fly to Venus, Mars or some other planet.

In the Test Laboratory, visitors will find answers to a whole lot of interesting questions, for example, if you can slide up an inclined plane. More than two hundred experiments will give a clear picture of and tell the secrets of mechanics, optics and electricity. A special exhibit - the Foucault pendulum - will prove the rotation of the Earth due to its property not to change the swinging angle, regardless of the rotation of its support.

In the Little Planet hall you can go on an exciting journey into the world of the living nature of Earth. You can see around our beautiful planet, by shifting through the time belts and centuries in a matter of minutes. Animation, videos and slides, as well as 3D panoramas will come to the aid. Thanks to them, you can dive down into the water, and solve the puzzles of animal and plant kingdoms. Unique technical developments will give you a chance to get acquainted with the people and landscapes of different continents, observe tornadoes, volcanic eruptions, floods and earthquakes. The diverse realm of terrestrial flora and fauna will introduce visitors into amazing facts of its existence on the Earth. Modern telescopes of the astronomical observatory here will show the celestial bodies with a multiple zoom.

The RatioArt Gallery will open the door into the extraordinary world of scannography. It turns out that, contrary to the laws of physics, you can touch the light and feel its touch. Moreover, under the guidance of a master you can create unusual photos here.

The Planetarium offers a very diverse educational program. Children can take part in educational lectures, training seminars, and exhibitions.  Open hours: from 10 am to 6 pm.

Among the Stars with Poet Ivan Bunin

A special poetic program – Among the Stars – will be held at the Planetarium on August 31, 2017.

Fans of poetry and outer space will have a unique opportunity to hear the works of their favorite poets and enjoy the numerous effects of the starry sky. Ivan Bunin was a Russian writer and poet, the winner of the Nobel Prize in Literature. His poems are unique, with the boundless beauty of the starry sky conveyed in them. Stars are not just details of the landscape – they are a mystery, which the poet pondered upon all his life long...
