This year again, lots of Moscow museum will open their doors to visitors for free every third Sunday of the month.
According to the official portal of the Moscow mayor and government, 40 museums have joined the action. For the first time, the exhibition hall "The Ark" with the paragons of the 20th century paintings is among them.
The action extends to both permanent and temporary exhibitions of galleries under the jurisdiction of the RF Culture Department. That is, the Tretyakov Gallery and other federal museums will not be accessible for free.
But the Sunday cultural and budget program includes the memorial museums of Marina Tsvetaeva and Mikhail Bulgakov, the picture galleries of Ilya Glazunov and Alexander Shilov, as well as large-scale military historical exhibitions, such as those at an exhibition hall dedicated to the Soviet campaign in Afghanistan and the Moscow Defense Museum. Traditionally, the Darwin and Timiryazev Museums, interesting to people of all ages, participate in the project as well.
Among the most noteworthy places is the "Northern Tushino" museum and park complex. It presents a real submarine, B-396: the vessel was on service in the Atlantic Ocean and off the coast of Africa, and patrolled the Mediterranean, Norwegian and Barents seas. In the late 1990s the submarine was decommissioned and re-equipped as a museum. The vessel floated from Severodvinsk to the capital city of Russia through the Moscow canal and is now based in Tushino. Visitors will see samples of the weapons and interior construction of the submarine, and get acquainted with the life of submariners.
