Top 5 Museums of Vladimir

Most of the Vladimir museums are included in the Vladimir-Suzdal Museum-Reserve founded in 1958 and making one of the numerous tourist attractions on the Golden Ring tour. In addition to separate buildings with thematic expositions, the large-scale museum-reserve includes white-stone monuments of ancient Russian architecture - the St. Dimitry Cathedral the Holy Assumption Cathedral, as well as the Golden Gate.
“The Chambers” Museum Complex
A large museum complex, it occupies three floors of an architectural monument of the 18th century. A classical style building, it was intended for offices. Inside there are separate exhibitions and museums for both adults and children. “The Chambers” house an art gallery with more than 300 artworks by painters of the 18th – 20th centuries displayed. Visitors to the museum can also see exhibitions dedicated to the origin of the book, the set-up of the Russian house and the old school traditions. It should be noted that the museum staff and guides wear traditional Russian costumes of the 19th century.
 

Open hours: from 10 am to 4 pm on Tuesday and Wednesday; from 10 am to 5 pm on Thursday through Sunday. Monday is a day off.

Museum "Old Vladimir"
The four-story brick building housing the museum “Old Vladimir” is easily recognizable as it resembles a stylized fortress. This is a former water tower built in 1868. The exhibits tell about the daily life of the city from the late 19th century till the early 20th century. At the museum, the interiors of the Vladimir tavern and a little church shop were reconstructed. Here you will see what an old Russian horse-drawn carriage looked like and pop by for a music party at the officer’s house. On top of the tower, there is an open-air observation deck, from which you can admire the panorama of Vladimir and the valley of the Klyazma River.

The Crystal Glass, Lacquer Miniature and Embroidery Museum

Since the mid-1970s, an exhibition of traditional Russian arts and crafts has been held in the premises of the red-brick Old Believer Holy Trinity Church. The Vladimir Region has long been famous for its handicrafts. Most of the museum area is given to crystal and glass items, as well as embroidery.
The famous lacquer miniature from the Mstera Village of the Vladimir Region depicts the scenes of old Russian fairy tales and works of literature.
 


Open hours: from 10 am to 6 pm every day except Monday.

The History Museum
The History Museum is located in a beautiful red-brick building constructed back in 1900. The display of the town’s history begins with archaeological finds from the Sunghir primitive site discovered in 1965. The museum will tell you about the major landmarks in the town’s development of the city: the storming of Vladimir by the Tatar-Mongol troops in 1238 and the Time of Troubles. Here you will see ancient weapons and coins, books and household items, documents and photographs.
 

Open hours: from 10 am to 4 pm on Monday and Thursday, from 10 am to 5 pm on Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Tuesday is a day off.

The Museum of 
Military Valor 
The museum exposition is located inside the ancient Golden Gate monument, and more precisely in the premises of its Church-over-the-Gate. The centuries-old history of Vladimir has a number of heroic pages. Visitors can see the military armor and weapons that were used for battles from the 12th to the 19th century, as well as stands illustrating the feats of arms by the famous Russian generals, such as Dmitry Pozharsky, Alexander Suvorov, Pyotr Bagration and Nikolai Stoletov.
 

 
Open hours: from 10 am to 4 pm on Monday and Thursday, from 10 am to 5 pm on Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Tuesday is a day off.
