Amazing is the history of this little old town, the center of the ancient principality, on the outskirts of which Moscow itself was founded. Rostov, the pearl of the Golden Ring route, keeps lots of unique relics and remarkable folk crafts. In the Rostov Kremlin alone, there are about a dozen museum expositions.
The Rostov Kremlin Museums
Multimedia screendesks in the museum's parlour on the ground floor of the Red Chamber will help you find the museum sites you need, and view maps of the town and its surroundings. From here you can make virtual tours to any museum, monastery or historical site of Rostov and the Rostov Region.
In the halls of the Samuilovsky Pavilion, you will see a permanent exhibition dedicated to the Old Russian art. It displays ancient icons, artful castings, elegant embroidery, wood and bone carvings, as well as valuable items for church services. But that's not all! The richest and most complete collection of church utensils, sculptures and icons is displayed in the Odigitria Church of the Rostov Kremlin.
Two halls of a specially created historical exposition tell about the most ancient past of the Rostov lands. This is a collection of unique archaeological artifacts found on the territory of Rostov and the Rostov Region - the bones and skulls of prehistoric animals and labor tools of primitive people.

The Rostov Merchantry Museum
Here you can see what the 19th century merchant manor looked like. Visitors will find here masterfully recreated interiors of the manor, with household items, old engravings depicting the towns views, and portraits of Rostov merchants.

"Rostov Enamel" Factory Museum
Rostov has long been famous for its traditional enamel miniature craft, which is very highly valued throughout the world. The museum under the Rostov enamel factory, presents enamel items created by the best artists and designers in different years. Interestingly, master classes are held here to teach the unique technique of miniature painting on enamel plates.

The "Rostov Sailboat" Shipyard
One of the most original museum projects of Rostov, the shipyard was founded to reconstruct the Russian small-capacity fleet. Now you can see here wooden sailboats, constructed in strict accordance with the shipbuilding traditions of the 12th – 14th centuries. For their construction, masters used historical descriptions, rare prints and artworks.

The Handicrafts House
Amazingly beautiful exhibitions of black-glazed ceramics, birch bark items, laces, wickerwork and carved wooden sculptures are presented in the Handicrafts House, which is located on the picturesque shore of Lake Nero. In addition to the finished products in the museum, you can personally see master craftsmen in the creative process, as well as learn from them the art of clay and dough molding, making dolls and leather and bark souvenirs, as well as painting wooden handicrafts.
