One of the gems of the famous Golden Ring of Russia, Pereslavl is the town of ancient legends. It is the birthplace of Alexander Nevsky and the homeland of the Russian fleet. The old town on the shore of the beautiful Pleshcheyevo Lake is small and cozy, full of ancient churches and monasteries. Pereslavl-Zalessky boasts unique museum collections and harbours numerous interesting legends. There are more than a dozen museums here.
The History, Architecture, and Art Museum-Reserve
This is the largest museum of Pereslavl-Zalessky. It was founded nearly a century ago thanks to the efforts by the famous historian Mikhail Smirnov. He managed to preserve numerous works of art and ancient church relics, which were confiscated by the Soviet authorities from the nobility estates and churches.
The collection has more than 80 thousand exhibits, including old Russian icons and paintings, wooden sculptures and paraphernalia of the famous people, who once lived in Pereslavl-Zalessky. The museum is located on the territory of the Goritsky Monastery.
Open hours: from 10 am to 6 pm during the period from May to September; from 10 am to 5 during the period from October to April. Monday is a day off.

"The Boat of Peter I" Museum-Estate
The oldest museum of Pereslavl-Zalessky, it was founded at the very beginning of the 19th century. A historical wooden boat is kept in the main museum building. It was constructed by Peter I himself for the regiment fleet, which the emperor created on the Plescheyevo Lake. The White Palace on the estate territory presents a historical exposition telling the story of the genesis of Russian shipbuilding. The Rotunda Hall holds temporary thematic exhibitions throughout the year.
Open hours: from 10 am to 6 pm on Tue – Sun, and from 10 am to 8 pm on Saturdays during the period from May to September; from 10 am to 5 pm during the period from October to April. Monday is a day off.

Kharitonov Dendrological Garden
A picturesque collection of bushes and trees from all over the world, as well as a nursery of arboreal and fruit and berry crops, this Dendrological Garden is a real decoration of Pereslavl-Zalessky. Walking around this special garden is a great pleasure. It boasts a large well-tended area designed as a landscape park.

Alexander Nevsky Museum
The private museum dedicated to the life of Prince Alexander Nevsky, was opened in near the Goritsky Monastery of Pereslavl-Zalessky in 2012. Some rare museum exhibits are more than 700 years old. A historical battle chainmail, as well as ancient coins and icons depicting the face of Alexander Nevsky are among them. Of constant interest among the visitors is the layout of Pereslavl as it was in the epoch of Alexander Nevsky, as well as the uniforms of Russian soldiers, Teutonic knights and Tatar-Mongol invaders.

“The House of Berendey” Museum
The unusual museum is housed in a high picturesque wooden tower and is considered to be the venue for preserving old Russian traditions and national crafts. A number of folk festivities and music concerts take place here. All visitors to the House of Berendey are welcomed to master classes in wood painting and souvenir making.
