The modern museum is not a stagnant mothball stinking institution, but a dynamic venue where new ways of interacting with the audience are used. So get art delivered right to your home and learn without getting up off the couch.
Portal "Culture.rf"
It is a large-scale project dedicated to the culture of Russia in all its manifestations - from tourist attractions and concerts to lectures and master classes. Many museums of Russia already have their virtual branches on this portal and share interesting facts about works of art, collections, audio and video guides. The lecture section deserves special attention. Nearly 1,000 publications are grouped into thematic collections here.
The Hermitage Academy
If you are interested in the history of world culture from antiquity to the present, then the Hermitage’s online project is what you need. On the site you can study materials individually or grouped in entire courses from educational videos, articles, video tours and photographs of exhibits. It is especially pleasing that the focus is not only on the museum collections, but also on imported exhibitions.
The Academy of Pushkin Fine Arts Museum
An eternal friend and rival of the Hermitage, the Pushkin Museum of Fine Arts also has an educational project on the history of art. It is built on the principle of a full-fledged online school with lectures and tests. The first course has already been completed, but all materials are available for study. They are grouped into three sections: INTRO (for beginners), PRO (for advanced) and KIDS (for children).
Project "Living Room of the New Tretyakov Gallery and Arzamas"
The brilliant collaboration of Arzamas and the Tretyakov Gallery exists both online and offline. In the building on the Krymsky Val Street, in the permanent exhibition there has been opened a living room, in which you can immerse yourself in the course materials, using special equipment. On the Arzamas website you will see several films and podcasts about Russian artists of the XX century. An entire course is dedicated to artist Mikhail Larionov.
Virtual Russian Museum
The media portal of the Russian Museum looks anachronistic in comparison with the others: the site design is not the most up-to-date, and the information is not grouped into courses, which is why you have to look for everything yourself. However, there is abundance of useful materials. There are texts, lectures, virtual tours, and digitized collections. The project has existed since 2003 - the Russian Museum was one of the first to have entered the web.
Media Portal of the State History Museum
The portal of the State History Museum is more like an online publication: the first page is composed of the sections "Popular", "Today's Watching" and "Editors' Choice". Materials are regularly posted on the site. In addition to traditional lectures and virtual tours, the portal holds broadcasts from conferences, seminars and vernissages.
