Yuri Bashmet Winter International Art Festival in Sochi

The 12th Winter International Art Festival will be held in Sochi from February 14 to 24, 2019. Traditionally, the program of the famous music festival includes theater performances, concerts, exhibitions, and educational projects for children and youth.
February 15 will be the official opening day of the festival. On this day, Konstantin Khabensky, Yuri Bashmet and the “Moscow Soloists” Chamber Ensemble will perform the play “Don't Leave Your Planet” after The Little Prince by Antoine de Saint-Exupery on the stage of the Winter Theater. The stage production was directed by Victor Kramer.

February 16 will see soloists performing at the opening gala concert of the festival: Jose Vicente Castello (French horn, Spain), Laura Binon (soprano, Belgium), Daygin Kim (piano, Republic of Korea), Yuri Bashmet (viola), Michaela Martin (violin, Germany), and Frank Campos (trumpet, USA). The opening gala concert will feature the world premieres of works by Valery Voronov, Patrick de Clerk, and Gia Wang.
On February 17, the jazz concert of the festival will star the winner of two Grammy awards, the famous American singer and pianist Diana Schur.
February 19 will be the time “When the Mountains Meet the Sea”, with two male vocal ensembles singing on the stage of the Winter Theater: Rustavi (Georgia) and A Filetta (Corsica, France).
The traditional ballet performance on February 20 will star Sergio Bernal, the soloist of the National Ballet of Spain, as a guest.
On February 22, the special guest of the festival, the National Theater of Taiwan "U-Theater" (Taipei), will present the colorful play "The Sound of the Ocean".

For the first time since 2014, another creative experiment of the festival will be continued: the project “Parallel Worlds. Russian Art, XX Century. Part 2”, which combines poetry, music and painting united by one time period (1946 to 1956).
February 23 will see the world premiere of the choir opera by contemporary composer Alexander Tchaikovsky.  The work was created specifically for the festival in Sochi. It continues the theme of connecting folk and academic performers launched last year with a grand concert that lasted for nearly 5 hours.
On February 24, the closing gala concert will feature Idil Biret (piano, Turkey), Nikolai Lugansky (piano), Yuri Bashmet (viola) and the All-Russian Youth Symphony Orchestra.
Traditionally, the festival is not limited to the Winter Theater only. A special program will also be held in the Organ and Chamber Music Hall of Sochi.

As usual, a variety of children's events will be held at the Winter Theater throughout the festival.
