It will be held as part of the 19th season of the Open Art Festival “Cherry Orchard”, - the theater’s publicist, Irina Gorbunova reported.

Moreover, the opera’s set designer, Matt Dili from Britain, has worked not only at drama and opera theaters, but was also engages in the opening and closing ceremonies of the London Olympics.
The musical director of the opera is Felix Korobov, the principal conductor of the Moscow Academic Music Theatre. New Stage Production
“The role of the stage director in the opera genre requires humility,” – Andrei Konchalovsky said. “My task is, first of all, not to deprive the listener of the music that this art exists for, especially when you stage an opera by a genius composer. The difficulty is that the visuals in the opera don’t have to correspond to the way Giuseppe Verdi once saw them. A certain shock is possible here, but only of a kind that wouldn’t destroy the great composer’ musical interpretation of the great dramaturgy”, - the stage director explained.
Felix Korobov shared his opinion in regards of the new performance. “I am very pleased that Verdi’s Othello is returning to the repertoire of our theater. It looks like a very right tribute to our legendary tenor Vyacheslav Osipov. For me, Othello is the memory about Osipov,” - the maestro said.
Hibla Gerzmava performing the part of Desdemona also commented on the new production. She reported that Desdemona is one of her most favorite parts, which was performed by her in various theaters, including the Metropolitan Opera in New York, and in Dresden. Right before the rehearsals in Moscow, performances with her participation were held in Paris.
“Desdemona is similar to me in terms of voice, temperament, and character. She is strong, infinitely in love with Othello, passionate and tender at the same time. Her part is endlessly deep, and I believe that I will have the opportunity to discover it in a new way, both for myself and for my audience”, - Hibla Gerzmava emphasized.
"Of course, I am happy that Othello will be on the stage of my home theater in the jubilee season and I will collaborate with the master of directing, Andrei Konchalovsky. I really want our performance to have a long and happy stage life", - the singer concluded.
