Children theatre is a perfect place for the whole family and the best way to surprise and entertain your children. There are a lot of theatres for children in Moscow, and each of them has a unique atmosphere of magic, kindness and fairy-tales. Let's have a look at some of the oldest and most well-known children theatres in Moscow.

Moscow Fairy-Tale Theatre for Children - one of the most outstanding puppet-shows in Moscow, which is placed in a beautiful pink "castle" in Moscow's downtown. Puppet shows for preschoolers and older children are held every day, including both classical plays and modern stagings. Ticket price - from 400 to 700 rubles ($13-22).

Theatre of Children Books "Volshebnaya Lampa" ("Magic Lamp")
- a great family theatre, which repertoire includes stagings based on the best Russian and foreign books for children. The theatre's main aim is to foster love for reading in children.  All the items in the theatre's repertoire have their own distinctive flavour - original plays, staging, music, animation, puppet construction and production.

Natalya Sats' Children Musical Theatre - the first musical theatre for children in the USSR, named after the great cultural figure Natalya Ilyinichna Sats. The theatre specializes in opera, ballet and dramatic productions for children. The world's first professional theatre for children, it is perhaps best known internationally as the birthplace of Sergei Prokofiev's
Peter and the Wolf. The theater now stages approximately 30 operas and ballets a year, not for children only but also such plays as Madam Butterfly or Eugene Onegin.

Yuri Kuklachev’s Cat Theatre - a unique place not only in Moscow but in the world, which shows amazing perfomances with trained cats and other animals. The theatre hosts two independent artistic teams, headed by Yuri Kuklachev and his son Dmitry Kuklachev. Each theatre's performance has a cozy and unique atmosphere of kindness, and cats amaze the public with unbelievable tricks.

Moscow Puppets Theatre - the oldest puppet-show theatre in Moscow, now endures process of modernization, which is expected to make him more suitable for modern public. New season opens on October 12, The theatre's program will include classical stagings and high-sounding premières.

Moscow Children Shadow Theatre

Sergey Obraztsov's Moscow State Puppet Theatre - not only a theatre but also an invaluable national property of Russia - the biggest Centre of Puppet Art, a unique Academy of Puppet Art and Palace of Arts for children, youths and adults. The theatre is placed in two buildings with a picturesque garden inside and a unique puppet clock on it.

Moscow Young Generation Theater (MTYuZ) - one of the oldest theaters of the current Russian era, which is famed for its highly talented troupe of actors, all of whom are individually gifted, but who also form a unified, harmonic ensemble. The theatre often presents new experimental perfomances, trying to attract a wide audience of both children and older generations of theatre lovers.

V. L. Durov Animal Theater
- famous family theatre in Moscow, found by Russia's great circus actor, clown, trainer and writer, Vladimir Leonidovich Durov. The main theatre's actors are animals - elephants, pelicans, hippopotamus, raccoons, ravens. All the animals are trained according to the unique Durovs family method - without any violence. So the theatre's stagings are full of warmth and kindness, and children can see that it is possible to treat animals friendly and gently.
