The State Academic Bolshoi Theatre proudly presents 3-act ballet "Onegin" to all the choreography fans. The choreography by renowned John Cranko and the immortal music by Pyotr Tchaikovsky have joined to yield an amazing performance that has had no analogues on this world famous stage yet.

The name of John Cranko, the British choreographer of the neo-classical school, has long been a symbol of a certain creative trend and, at the same time, a brand of high quality. The genius of academic dance, he was a great success with his directing on the best stages of Paris, London, Stuttgart, and Milan. Throughout his life, John Cranko was passionately into Russian composers’ works and created tremendously bright, emotionally rich performances on their basis. His creative biography includes "The Soldier's Story" to Igor Stravinsky’s music and performances to the music by Sergei Prokofiev. However, Tchaikovsky's works, in particular the opera Eugene Onegin was in special favour of the famous choreographer. It was on its basis that John Cranko created the ballet Onegin, which now successfully takes place on the stages of the USA and Europe, and now at the Bolshoi Theater as well.

Of course, this version of "Onegin" excels in its originality and can be a welcome surprise to Moscow ballet dancers. However, it should be noted that John Cranko always treated the music and choreography classics with piety, and therefore was very attentive to both the sources - Tchaikovsky's opera and Pushkin's novel.
He managed to translate Pushkin’s verse novel “Eugine Onegin”, literally its every scene and stanza, into the language of ballet choreography. The ballet was so elaborately designed that it conveys all the subtle nuances of Pushkin's text.
How can you convey in dance Tatyana’s writing her love letter to Onegin? Or a duel challenge, for example? Talented performance smoothes the complexity of translation and the dance language takes precedence over the word.
Ballet lovers in New York, Stuttgart and the rest of Europe immensely admired unparalleled “Onegin” and so the stage production toured across all the important ballet theaters of the world.

The ballet fully conveys the drama of Tatiana, a naive girl who was brought up on romantic books in the wilderness of countryside and falls in unrequited love with Eugene Onegin and then grows into a mature strong woman.
At the Bolshoi Theater, the team of topnotch professionals worked on the staging of the ballet "Onegin": Rid Anderson as the choreographer, Agneta and Victor Valku as his assistants, Jurgen Rose as the stage and costume designer, Steen Bjerke as the lighting designer, and Pavel Sorokin as the conductor.
When: from 7 pm to 9:35 on October 5 and 6, 2018.
Where: the New Stage of the Bolshoi Theatre at the address 4/2, Bolshaya Dmitrovka Street, next to Okhotny Ryad, Teatralnaya, and Chekhovskaya metro stations.
