“Sashay to Theatre” exhibition organized to the anniversary of Golden Mask festival reflects the history of formation and development of modern Russian theater. This year the festival celebrates its 20th anniversary.

Visitors are greeted by the shots of famous Russian theater curtains and full body portraits of famous actors and directors. Original exhibition was developed by Golden Mask in cooperation with “Chireshnevy Les” Arts Festival and A. A. Bakhrushin State Central Theatre Museum.

he exhibition model was created by famous theater artist Alexander Borovsky and theater photographer Alexander Ivanyshyn. By their idea, a podium, framed by large color photographs of curtains and stage scenery of the most famous Russian theaters will be drawn up throughout the first line of GUM between white flowering cherry trees.

Here one can see a part of the curtain sketch for Mikhail Bulgakov's "The Days of Turbin" played in Moscow Art Theater (artist David Borovsky, 1960) and a fragment of a sketch for "The Little Humpbacked Horse" ballet at the famous Bolshoi Theatre to music by Rodion Shchedrin (artist Boris Messerer, 1999). Between them are randomly placed full body double-sided black and white photographs of the winners and nominees of the "Golden Mask" award as well as the Oleg Jankowski's “Chireshnevy Les” festival.

Funny and serious, thoughtful and ironic pictures were taken especially for the exhibition. Photographs' author Alexander Ivanyshyn noted that many of the models of the series have been very busy, but still "could break away from rehearsals for five minutes or passing by in Moscow, they took pictures right in the hotel lobbies." Among them are the world-famous Russian conductor Valery Gergiev, choreographer Alla Sigalova, artist Pavel Kaplevich, director Kirill Serebrennikov, actress Chulpan Hamatova, actor and director Vladimir Mashkov, opera singer Hibla Gerzmava, director Rimas Tuminas. Many of them attended exhibition opening.

The exhibition is open until 31 May.
